Creating a red corpuscle
with Edit Poly
Software: 3DS Max
The modeling of a red corpuscle is quite simple and it can be performed in various way. Now we'll examinate two of them. In the first we'll apply an FFD modifier on a primitive geometry, on the contrary the second way is based on polygonal modeling.

1_In this second method we start creating a Gengon. It isn't a standard primitive, so we have to choose it from the Extended Primitives objects. Drag the mouse in the center of the Front view setting Sides to 6. Be sure that Fillet value is 0.
| |
2_Right click and select Convert to > Editable Poly. Now we can edit the geometry using vertex, edges, borders and polygons.

| |
3_Select the top-center vertex and drag it down as shown in figure below. Do the same with the down-center vertex (obviously drag it in the other direction).
| |
4_In the Modify panel switch on the Use NURMS Subdivision radio button and increase the Iterations value to 2.
| |
5_Drag up the vertex shown in the first figure of this series, and down those shown in the second figure.
| |
6_Now you can apply the same material used in the previous tutorial, in both cases your final rendering should be somethig similar to figure on the top of the page, next to the title.
