Using Illustrator to create eyes
Software: Adobe Illustrator

In this tutorial we'll see how Adobe Illustrator allows you to reach great results in graphic works with vectorial elements. I'll show you some basic shape transformation, some tips about colors, gradient and transparency.

1_First of all draw a circle using Elipse Tool. In order to obtain a perfect circle you have to keep Shift key pressed while tracing the elipse.

2_
Assign a weight to circle stroke, as shown in the figure below. You can change its color from the Swatches panel, paying attention to Color panel (where you can find the icons of stroke and fill of selected object).

3_ After drawing another circle assign a gradient: you can change gradient properties from its panel. Be sure that it is a linear one and choose its colors from the swatches panel, you can drag them directly from one panel to the other.

4_Copy the circle and then past in front (from EDIT menu) the copy to obtain a concentric circle. Once created the copy it will coincide perfectly with the first circle.

5_
You have only to scale the copy, dragging handles and pressing SHIFT and ALT keys simultaneously. When you drag a handle on an object's bounding box, the object scales relative to the opposite handle, or you can change the reference point to the object's center. You can also lock the proportions of an object as you scale it.

6_After having assigned black color to circle fill, use OUTER GLOW effect, selecting it from EFFECT menu> STYLIZE. Set parameters for mode, opacity and blur.

7_To add some brightness effects to the eyes you can create white shapes and play with their transparencies. The simplest path you can draw with the Pen tool is a straight line, made by clicking the Pen tool to create two anchor points. By continuing to click, you create a path made of straight line segments connected by corner points.
To close a path, position the pen pointer over the first (hollow) anchor point. A small circle appears next to the Pen tool when it is positioned correctly. Click to close the path.

8_Change element transparencies from transparency window.

9_Create copies of white circles and play changing their position and transparency.

10_Once finished an eye you can make a copy and move it on the right side. The eyes you have created are looking at you!!!
